With the summer months just around the corner, it’s prime time to start thinking about your next road trip. Whether somewhere local or cross country, it’s nice to get out of town for some new sights and adventure.
Wherever the road takes you, it’s important to make sure your Ford vehicle is ready. A complete checkup can help avoid the stress and headache of an unexpected breakdown on your journey. The following checklist can help you prepare for your upcoming excursion.
Ways to Prepare Your Ford Vehicle for a Road Trip
Aside from packing clothes, gear, and snacks, an important part of preparing for a road trip includes a quick run through of your vehicle. They’re easy and quick and can save you a lot of time in the long run.
Check tire pressure and tread
Check the tire pressure in all 4 tires. If unsure of the recommended PSI (pounds per square inch), take a look at the owner’s manual. If low, many gas stations offer air pumps you can use. Take some time and inspect the tread on the tires, too. Tire manufacturers recommend using a penny or quarter test, or you can use a tread depth gage. If 2/32 inches or less, you need replacement. For an extra layer of security, keep a spare and changing kit in the trunk.
Renew registration and inspection
With an expired registration sticker, you may end up with a ticket before you even leave Denton. Take care of registration requirements before hitting the road.
Test brakes
When breaking do you hear squeaking sounds, or worse, do you press your foot all the way down before coming to a stop? If so, it’s likely time to replace the brake pads.
Clean inside and out
Before heading out, give your vehicle a good detail inside and out. With a shiny, clean car, you can sit back and relax.
